I grew up in Scotland where even then I knew that my two loves were dance and the land. I graduated with a social science degree, majoring in philosophy and doing a dissertation on whether or not medicine was a holistic pursuit. From there I began working with Women's Aid and volunteering in a drug's project in the infamous Gorbals in Glasgow. I also spent time protesting at Faslane and through this began my life long relationship with ecofeminist spirituality. In 1991 I fell passionately in love with conscious dance through my meeting with Ya'acov and Susannah Darling Khan. I flew to New York to meet Gabrielle Roth shortly afterwards and then moved to Devon to be closer to my teachers. I spent the next few years working freelance with my business Matrix, taking the power of creative healing into whatever organisation would entertain me, which included MIND and the EXETER DRUGS PROJECT. A few years later I trained as a social worker and then as a family therapist. I worked in the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service for almost a decade, until my now 14 year old son was 2, at which time I left to train as a shamanic practitioner with The Sacred Trust in Dorset. Continuing to follow the whispers in the wind I applied for and was awarded a research grant in 2009 from Exeter University Business School, to write a PhD thesis on leadership, wellbeing and embodiment. My doctoral thesis was written as a piece of "insider research" whilst I was simultaneously apprenticing and training as a teacher with The School of Movement Medicine. I received my doctorate in 2015 and have been published in a number of academic journals and book collections. Since then I have spent time setting up a pilot project taking well-being coaching into the homeless sector, teaching Mental Health nurses at UWE in Bristol on an ongoing basis and running Movement Medicine classes and workshops. I am also employed as a mentor for both apprentices and those in professional training with The School of Movement Medicine. This coming year sees me embarking on a positive psychology coaching training, as well as returning to my previous interest in promoting constructive parenting through Parenting Plus.
